doing math in pen.

New blog name

So, I’m going to try out this blog name.  It’s the best I can come up with so far.

Why “doing math in pen?”  Because that’s what I do and am doing right now…I do math in pen and it has been frowned upon for a greater portion of my life.  All of my work is and has been in pen since junior high, except for a very brief period in college where I became addicted to the mechanical pencil.  It’s an expensive habit, so I quit.  Plus, pencil smears all over the place and gets on your hands when you handle papers as much as you do in math, and I can’t stand eraser crumbles.  Pen is so permanent, you can’t erase your mistakes.  You have to live with them, or spend a lot of time scribbling them out.

Plus, pens just seem to show up for free.  I think I have probably bought 10 pens in my entire life, yet I have never run out.  I am never without pen.  They just seem to appear.  I bet if you asked the homeless guy on the corner if he had a pen, he would.  Everyone has pens.

Some current pens and where they came from:

CAC Villanova University.  I got this at a conference.

IEEE PacRim 09 -  Another conference.

University of Delaware Judical Affairs – Stolen from my husband.

Lockheed Martin – from my old work.

Johns Hopkins University ECE- yet another conference.

Sigma Sigma Sigma – from my old sorority, out of which I dropped.

Land Title guarantee company – stolen from my in-laws I think.

You can easily identify someone by the pens that they have and learn a lot about them.  My analysis:

Clearly a huge nerd, an academic, maybe a rocket scientist, by the collection of pens.

It is likely that this person owns a house, or tried to own one.

The sorority pen  in the company of the other pens throw it off.  A female rocket scientist?  Women can’t be scientists.  So this pen must belongs to this guy’s girlfriend or former girlfriend.  Sorority girls are hot, so this guy must be good looking and smart.  Wow.

OK bad analysis.  Anyway, this is my new blog name.

Correction: there is nothing weird about a female scientist. A Sorority Girl Scientist, on the other hand – now that is just absurd.

Also, if you stole a Judicial Affairs pen from me, who did I steal it from?..
